Dear Authors of FULL PAPERS:
Thank you for contributing to the CHI 2002 Conference Proceedings. This letter gives instructions on how to submit the final electronic version of your accepted paper(s). Please read all of the instructions below.

Submission Deadlines and Preparation of Copy
All ACM sponsored proceedings will be included in the ACM Digital Library as well as prepared for printed publication. All papers for the conference must be submitted in an electronic format which conforms to ACM specifications and must be received on or before ***December 7, 2001***. Your paper is limited to 8 pages. The Templates for the CHI Proceedings are presented in Latex and Microsoft Word (using Word is preferred), and located at:

1. Papers should be produced using one of these templates. They must be submitted electronically as an email attachment. Send the email to: typedept@fast.net. Include the name of the conference (CHI 2002) and your paper number in the subject line. Be sure your paper is formatted for American Letter (8-1/2x11).

If you are using WORD, please send me the .doc file (you do not have to send me a .ps file). See item #2A.

If you are using LaTex, please send both your .tex file and a .ps file. [Use the link to the style file provided; this will automatically insert the ACM copyright information needed)]. LaTex users, please try to use Type 1 fonts. For help see: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/sigfaq.htm#a14 .

If you want to use FrameMaker, please make the .fm file match the specifications outlined in the WORD template. FrameMaker users must send both the .fm and a .ps file. Be sure the figures are embedded. (see item #2C).

2A. If you are using WORD, please insert the ACM copyright notice given in CHI02blurb.doc at the bottom/left of the first page of your paper, if you used the .doc file above, the correct copyright statement is in place. Note that the font must be 8 pt. Times Roman, and that CHI 2002 is italicized. The pdf file CHI02blurb.pdf shows the proper layout.

2B. If you are using LaTex, the copyright statement and information is included in the style file (chi2002.sty).

2C. If you are using FrameMaker, please insert the ACM copyright notice given in CHI02blurb.txt at the bottom/left of the first page of your paper. Note that the font must be 8 pt. Times Roman, and that CHI 2002 is italicized. The pdf file CHI02blurb.pdf shows the proper layout.

2D. Authors that are US Government employees must contact me for the correct ACM copyright information for your paper. Let me know the names and affiliations of your co-authors also.

3. Do not alter the templates other than for line or page breaks. Authors using LaTex, be sure to put all text into ONE complete .tex file, including the references from your .bbl file, please send your figures--zipped or tarred together.

4. Submissions that do not conform to the ACM and SIGCHI standards and formats will be returned to the author for corrections and/or alterations. Use of ACM Categories & Descriptors and General Terms is not mandatory, but is encouraged to enhance the search functions of ACM's digital library.

5. Your actual text (source) file is needed to produce the METADATA for ACM's digital library.

6. Please read the reviewer comments and revise your paper accordingly.

7. Be sure that there are no bad page or column breaks--meaning no widows (last line of a paragraph at the top of a column). If this happens, either tighten the previous column or force a line over.

Section and Sub-section heads should remain with at least 2 lines of body text.

Remember that all files you submit (including a .ps file) must be formatted for American Letter (8-1/2x11).

Copyright Release Form
ACM requires your original signature on a hardcopy of the copyright release form. The form itself can be downloaded from: http://www.acm.org/pubs/copyright_form2sheridan.html .

Please fill in the title, authors and publication at the top of the page and sign at the bottom. Be sure that your title matches your submission, or a new form will be requested. The form with the lead author's original signature must be mailed or sent via an express carrier by December 7, 2002 to:

Video Figures
If your submission included a video figure, and the video figure was accepted, it will appear in the Conference Video Program. You may choose to prepare a new version of the video figure, although it is fine to use the one you submitted. If you choose to submit a new version, please send the video tape, along with a note that specifies the paper number, title, authors, and affiliations to:

Dear Authors of FULL PAPERS with figures being reproduced in the color section:
Thank you for contributing to the CHI 2002 Conference Proceedings. Please read all of the instructions above for your full paper submission and the following three paragraphs for the submission of your color figures.

Color Figures/Illustrations
This year's proceedings will have a color section printed in the back with the color illustrations from your articles reproduced in 4-color process. Your color figures put together cannot exceed one full 8-1/2x11 page. The image area is: 7 inches x 9-1/4 inches. If your figures exceed the image area on the page, they will be reduced.

If a figure or illustration is to be reproduced in color, please add the following text to the end of the caption:

(This figure is reproduced in color on page 000.)

A figure will be reproduced in the color section ONLY IF this text is present at the end of the caption.

Please send the color figure(s) as a single .tif or .eps file. This file should be attached to the email with your full paper submission. In the body of the email message, indicate which figure(s) from the paper are to be reproduced in color.

Tutorials Author Kit
The documents below comprise the CHI2002 Tutorial Author Kit. If you're tutorial submission has been accepted, please download, read and complete all documents and send them to the Tutorials Co-Chair no later than 7 December 2001.

The keywords section of your paper should include 1 to 12 keywords.

 title of papers

Please capitalize the first letter of the words in the title of your contribution.

 email attachments

Please send the requested files as attachments, not embedded. Zipping all needed files together is encouraged.
